With the traditional spring cleaning months of March and April now in sight, the Bank of England is undergoing a rather timely, costly and long-awaited facelift. Of course, our London Office Cleaning Teams are dedicated to ensuring that London offices are sparkling and hygienically clean all year round. However, cleaning London offices and buildings is not just an ‘inside’ job…
The London Evening Standard recently reported that the Bank of England’s Threadneedle Street headquarters is set to spend £540,462 including VAT on its first revamp in over 20 years. The work involves cleaning the masonry of the Grade I-listed building’s exterior wall, known as the Soane Wall after the Bank’s famous surveyor Sir John Soane, and last took place in 1993. The project is taking place on Friday evenings and at weekends so as to minimise disruption and will take 12 weeks to complete.
The company overseeing the renovation is Thomann-Hanry whose previous restorations include the Ritz in Piccadilly, the Louvre in Paris and Moscow’s Kremlin. Using a technique call façade gommage – a gentle cleaning process, projecting very fine powders with low-pressure compressed air – no chemicals, detergent or water are needed and buildings aren’t damaged as they can be with sandblasting.
